Recent reading - Among the Lilies

I read Daniel Mills's collection of weird fiction, Among the Lilies back in the summer and felt immediately that these were powerful and deeply moving stories. I wanted to write about them but first I needed to let the stories settle a while in my consciousness, for my thoughts about them to ferment and come together.

A couple of months have passed and this past week I've come back to the collection to see if my first impressions have changed, whether these stories retain their power to unsettle and stir conflicting emotions.

I sat down yesterday and attempted to put my thoughts in some kind of order. You can read what I wrote on the link from the 'Reviews' tab. However one might choose to categorise these tales, as weird fiction or modern gothic, there's no doubting that Mills is one our finest practitioners of dark, contemporary fantasy.
